Art Across Realities at the Andy Warhol Museum Pop District

Pop Art District

In collaboration with the Andy Warhol Museum Pop District and working closely with local Pittsburgh artists from marginalized communities, team members designed and developed a mobile augmented reality (AR) art gallery. Physically embedded in Pittsburgh’s Pop District, the prototype explores how immersive technology can create counterspaces that center the joy, rest, and healing of marginalized communities, including through art.

The project team is iterating on the prototype for centering the art of marginalized artists in the Pittsburgh area, grounded in the physical space surrounding the Warhol. To co-design the prototype, the team adapted critical placemaking strategies to AR environment design and development.

This project is a collaboration between team members from The Center for Transformational Play and The Entertainment Technology Center.
