The Southern African Large Telescope (SALT) is located at the South African Astronomical Observatory (SAAO) near Sutherland, South Africa. SALT is the largest optical telescope in the southern hemisphere. Carnegie Mellon University is a founding member of SALT and has recently re-entered a partnership with the telescope. Read more
