Teaching Spaces with Resident Video Conferencing
Rooms with resident video conferencing use the room's built-in system, accessed via a touch panel, to initiate a meeting for remote participants. This document provides instructions for using the classroom technology to support both in-person and remote participants in their learning, collaboration, and participation.

Get Started
1. Connect
Connect your laptop and share with the room.
- Do one of the following:
- Wired presenting - Connect the HDMI or USB-C cable to your laptop and tap Laptop on the touch panel under Device.
- Wireless presenting - Tap Wireless Presentation on the panel and follow the on-screen steps to connect.
- Under Display Controls, tap Left-, Right- or Both-.to choose a display location.
2. Share with remote participants.
If you have remote participants, start the Zoom meeting for them.
- Under Actions on the touch panel tap Zoom.
- Enter the Meeting ID (and passcode if required). Or, use your personal meeting ID.
- Tap Join Meeting.
- Under Videoconference Controls, tap Presentation and then tap Laptop. Your screen will be shared with remote students.
- Share one of the following:
- Camera - Tap Camera and adjust the camera controls.
- Device - Tap Presentation and one of the following: Laptop, Document Camera, or Desktop.
TIP! As the meeting host, you can adjust Zoom settings for security, manage participants, monitor the chat, set participant controls, and more.
3. Adjust videoconference settings for remote participants.
- Under Actions on the touch panel tap Videoconference.
- Under Videoconference Controls:
- Select the camera to adjust and then use the Pan/Tilt or Zoom buttons to adjust the camera view of the room.
- Use the slider to adjust the Video Conference Volume.

Share the document camera
- Place the materials under the document camera.
- Do the following:
- In the room - Tap Document Camera on the touch panel. The document camera will use the room projector to display images.
- For remote - Tap Presentation under Videoconference Controls on the touch panel and then tap Doc Cam.
Share annotations using an iPad on Zoom
Before you begin, make sure:
- Your iOS device (iPad or iPhone) has the latest version of Zoom installed and configured.
- Your laptop AND iOS device are on the same wireless network (CMU-SECURE is the preferred option).
Follow the steps below to share:
- Tap Laptop under Device on the touch panel.
- From the Zoom meeting on your laptop, click Share Screen.
- Select iPhone/iPad and then click Share.
Note: Do not share the computer's audio to avoid feedback. - Follow the onscreen instructions to connect your iOS device.
You can also use annotation tools on a shared screen or whiteboard within the Zoom meeting.
Record the class/meeting
- From your Zoom meeting, click Record. Remote participants will be notified that the meeting is being recorded.
- Do one of the following:
- Select Record on this computer to save the recording to your hard drive.
- Click Record to the cloud. You will receive an email with a link to the recording once it's available for viewing.
