What is a Schengen Visa?
A Schengen Visa is an entry permit to the Schengen Zone, granted to third-country nationals wishing to enter and remain for short stays in any of the member states
This visa permits its holder to remain in the Schengen territory for a maximum of three months.
Only foreign students and scholars from countries that have not signed a visa-free agreement with the Schengen Area member states require a Schengen Visa.

Obtaining a Schengen Visa
Foreign students in the U.S. on F-1 visas need the following to apply for a Schengen Visa:
- Valid I-20
- If needed, request an I-20 signed for travel from the MyOIE Portal.
- Reference letter from your educational institution (school/college/university) in the U.S., stating that you are in good standing, your major, and the expected date of graduation.
- An enrollment verification letter from CMU can be downloaded through Student Information Online (SIO)
