Greetings, Students & Scholars!

Spring Carnival is back! These three days are some of the best all year, and we hope you've enjoyed venturing down the rabbit hole for everything from Booth to Buggy. When you return from Wonderland, we've found some events from across the city to bring a little extra fun to your week. We hope you enjoy this issue of the OIE "Friday Greetings" email.

OIE & CMU News & Events

Carnival

Step into an alternate universe with Spring Carnival's 2023 Theme, Scotty in Wonderland. Join your fellow Tartans from April 13 to 16 as we celebrate over 100 years of fun, laughter, booth, buggy, and being a Tartan! Inspired by the Alice in Wonderland book and film, this year's event combines the story with Tartan tradition by replacing Alice with Scotty! This year's theme will be a way for organizations to embrace CMU's beloved Scotty dog into one of our oldest traditions, which is Carnival, in a fun and creative way. Anything that is impossible or seems impossible in our world can come true at Spring Carnival 2023! Carnegie Mellon's Spring Carnival is three days of amusement park rides, adventures in booths, unhealthy snacks, and buggy races. Learn more about Carnival.

Annual Douse-A-Dean Fundraiser

Give back by dunking a dean! In partnership with the University Police, Douse-A-Dean is a friendly competition between the deans to see who can raise the most money from their college in support of Special Olympics by sitting under a warm bucket of fresh water while participants try to release that bucket using tennis balls. Learn more and get involved.

CMU Om Holi 2023

On Sunday, April 16, from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m., check out the 2023 celebration of Holi at Carnegie Mellon University! As part of the Spring Carnival Weekend, it will be an afternoon of music, dance, colors, and fun featuring D.J. Shake, Penn Masala, and Babbulicious! We are thrilled to be hosting this event with the support of IGSA and Tepper SABA at CMU and HSC, AID, SASA, and JSA at Pitt. Please buy your tickets ASAP, as only a limited amount of colors are available!

SCS Musical Revue: Get Ready to be Mesmerized

Are you ready for a musical extravaganza that will leave you spellbound? The SCS Musical Revue is set for April 15 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at GHC 4405 Rashid Auditorium and it promises to be a night to remember! This year's revue (not recitation, not review!) is themed around grad school life, so come for a series of performances commiserating the highs and lows of life as an SCS student. No tickets needed... admission is FREE! From the enchanting "For Good" to the comedic "Agony," from the heart-wrench "You Will Be Found" to the uplifting "We're All in This Together," we have it covered. Our talented cast will perform iconic musical pieces from Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen, Chicago, Phantom of the Opera, Wicked, and more. Join our talented SCS grad students for an evening filled with music and a whole lot of fun!
