Greetings, Students & Scholars!

Congratulations, Tartans, you made it through the semester! Sit back, relax, and be proud of all you have accomplished this semester. For those graduating this month, congratulations! We are so proud of everything you have accomplished and can't wait to see everything you do in the future. If you are joining us again next semester, we look forward to seeing you again in January. Most importantly, we hope you all have a safe and happy winter break, and we can't wait to see everything you will accomplish in 2023. Travel Signature Reminder

Traveling or thinking about traveling internationally (cruises, Canada, Mexico, etc) over the winter break? Check your I-20 (pg 2) or DS-2019 (pg 1) to see if you have a valid travel signature! Requests need to be submitted to OIE by today, Dec. 16.

Winter Break Closures

On Monday, Dec. 19, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., the OIE office will be closed for an end of the year celebration. We would also like to remind all students that the university will be closed for the Winter Break starting Dec. 23. The OIE office will close early for Winter Break at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 22, and re-open Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023. Please plan accordingly, and we wish you all a happy holiday.

Our Pittsburgh Picks

Chanukah Festival

On Tuesday, Dec. 20, at 5:30 p.m., join in the Hanukah celebrations at Schenley Plaza. There will be live musical performances, a marching band, and fresh latkes, donuts and more. This year there will also be a seven foot tall menorah made of Legos on display! Learn more about the event.

Holiday Lights and Late Nights

Keep the celebratory cheer going strong with fun, festive, and family-friendly Holiday Lights and Late Nights at the National Aviary! From Dec. 26 to 30, celebrate the season with live entertainment each night, like trivia and a dance performance. Take in holiday decor and music, tasty seasonal treats and cocktails available for purchase by Atria's Specialty Catering, and get the chance to cozy up by the fireplace in The Garden Room. Enjoy meet-and-greets with National Aviary Animal Ambassadors and make a very merry craft to take home. Holiday Lights at Kennywood

Make your season sparkle! Bring your family and celebrate the return of this Pittsburgh classic at Kennywood. Take a stroll among more than two million twinkling lights, and marvel at the tallest Christmas tree in the state. Savor the flavors of new festive foods and holiday drinks. Plus, there are rides for the kids and special entertainment for all. Learn more about the event.

Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum

Pittsburgh is a sports city, but did you know we also have a sports museum? Learn how professional football traces its roots to Pittsburgh in 1892 with the first paid professional athlete. Or celebrate the 50th anniversary of the greatest play in NFL history, the Sports Museum has added rare and never-before-seen objects and historic images to the Super Steelers exhibition. Then check out the history of the Penguins' franchise with the A Great Day for Hockey exhibit, which tells the fascinating history of the sport of hockey in Pittsburgh, from Olympians like Drury, Brianne McLaughlin, and Paralympian Dan McCoy, to the region's early teams like the Yellow Jackets and Hornets.
