Support Resources for Returning Students

Students who are on leave continue to be an important part of the CMU community. The following support resources are available to help students make the most of their leave and ease their transition back to the university.

Academic Departments

Your academic department can answer questions related to academics and taking a leave or returning from a leave, as well as questions about transfer credits.

The HUB

The HUB student service center staff are equipped to answer inquiries about finances and ID Cards as they relate to a leave or return from leave. General questions may be directed to thehub@andrew.cmu.edu. More specific questions regarding financial aid may be directed to your HUB liaison

Counseling & Psychological Services (CaPS)

CaPs addresses the mental health needs of students by providing a safe, confidential environment to talk about personal or academic concerns. CaPS helps students improve their psychological health by facilitating insight and fostering deeper understanding of their personal struggles needed to make better choices for themselves. Services at CaPS are developmental in nature, aimed at supporting students in the moment and in their personal growth and maturation over time. Students considering taking a leave and those who are planning to return or have just returned are encouraged to reach out to CaPS for support.

Student Academic Success Center

The Student Academic Success Center focuses on creating spaces for students to engage in their coursework and approach to learning through individual and group programming and tutoring options. A wide variety of opportunties is offered through the center that would help students returning from a leave of absence to readjust to campus life and academics, such as academic coaching, effective communication strategies, accommodations for those with disabilities, and language support. Reach out to the Student Academic Success Center at success@andrew.cmu.edu.

The Center for Student Diversity & Inclusion

The Center's professional staff serve as a resource to assist historically underrepresented students and those who are first in their family to attend college in navigating a return to campus after a leave, as well as connecting, developing and achieving educational plans that are compatible with their life goals. Disability Resources

The Office of Disability Resources works with students to provide responsive accomodations and resources including physical, digital, and programatic access. Students returning from leave are welcome to reach out to Disability Resources for consultation and support. More information is available on the Disability Resources website.
