Jim Daniels' Poem "Beautiful Thing" Part of 2011 Pennsylvania Public Poetry Project

Jim Daniels' Poem

Jim Daniels' poem, "Beautiful Thing," is one of four poems appearing in this year's Pennsylvania Public Poetry Project. The poem was first published in his collection Night With Drive-By Shooting Stars.

Daniels, the Thomas Stockham Baker Professor of English at CMU, was honored on March 28 along with three other poets at Penn State's campus during An Evening of Pennsylvania Poets: Readings in Celebration of the Public Poetry Project. The event featured readings by each poet.

The Public Poetry project was started in 1999 by Penn State and seeks to make poetry more available in the daily lives of Pennsylvanians by placing posters of poems in public places. Posters are sent to locations throughout the Commonwealth, including public and school libraries, colleges and universities, restaurants, bookstores, coffee houses, and other businesses. You can learn more about the project at www.pabook.libraries.psu.edu/activities/ppp/index.html.
