Financial Resources
The English Department provides four years of full tuition support for full-time LCS students pursuing the Ph.D.
There are also several other resources for financial support:
- Ph.D. candidates teach undergraduate courses at CMU, earning a yearly stipend. The teaching load is one course per semester.
- A competitive dissertation fellowship is available, and provides Ph.D. candidates with a stipend while they work full-time on their dissertations.
- Federal loan programs—interest deferred while in school—provide supplemental income.
- The University offers no-interest, short term emergency loans to needy students. Visit The HUB Student Financial Resource Center for complete information on these and other programs.
