Mathematica Installation Instructions

Use the installation instructions appropriate for your operating system.

Windows XP and Higher

  1. Download the installer file to your computer.
  2. Extract the zipped folder using Extract All under Windows XP (right click to reveal this option) or use WinZip if you have a version of Windows before XP.
  3. Open the file named Mathematica_license_agree.doc, which contains detailed instructions for installing either the networked or standalone version of Mathematica.
  4. Launch the installer and follow the instructions presented to register your copy.
  5. You will need to re-register or replace this copy each year when the license code expires on August 31 plus a short grace period.

MacOS 10.3 and Higher

NOTE: You cannot run the installer from the .dmg image. You must copy the directories from the Mathematica_6.dmg file to the hard drive on which you want to install Mathematica, then run the installer from there.

  1. Download the Mathematica_6.dmg file to your hard drive. Double-click on the compressed files.
  2. Follow the on screen instructions. Drag the Mathematica logo to the hard drive on which you will install Mathematica.
  3. After copying the files, read the essential (very important) installation information contained in the Mathematica_license_agree.
  4. Follow the directions presented by the installer using the information provided in the file.
  5. You will need to re-register or replace this copy each year when the license code expires on August 31 plus a short grace period.
