Mathematica Installation Instructions

Use the installation instructions appropriate for your operating system.

Windows XP and Higher

  1. Download the installer file to your computer.
  2. Right-click on the installer file and select Extract All from the drop-down menu.
  3. Do one of the following:
  • To install the FACULTY/STAFF version, open the file named Mathematica_license_agree.doc, which contains detailed instructions for installing either the networked or standalone version of Mathematica.
  • To install the STUDENT version, open the file named mathem_student_license.doc, which contains detailed instructions for installing either the networked or standalone version of Mathematica.

MacOS 10.4 and Higher

NOTE: You cannot run the installer from the .dmg image; do one of the following:

  • For the FACULTY/STAFF version, copy the directories from the Mathematica_7.dmg file to the hard drive on which you want to install Mathematica, then run the installer from there.
  • For the STUDENT version, copy the directories from the Mathem_Stud_7.dmg file to the hard drive on which you want to install Mathematica, then run the installer from there.
  1. Depending on the version you are installing, download either the Mathematica_603.dmg or the Mathematica_7.dmg file to your hard drive. Double-click on the compressed files.
  2. Follow the on screen instructions. Drag the Mathematica logo to the hard drive on which you will install Mathematica.
  3. After copying the files, read the essential (very important) installation information contained in either  Mathematica_license_agree or the mathica6_student_license.doc.
  4. Follow the directions presented by the installer using the information provided in the file.
  5. You will need to re-register or replace this copy each year when the license code expires on August 31 plus a short grace period.
