Welcome to Carnegie Mellon University! Let's get started with a some important onboarding information.

Required: Form I-9 for Employment Eligibility Verification

In accordance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA), you are required to provide Carnegie Mellon University with documents establishing your identity and employment eligibility within three days of your hire date. Under federal law, failure to comply with IRCA will result in termination of employment.

Complete the Form I-9 within 3 days of hire

  • Section 1: Provide your personal information (this section can be completed in Workday or by paper form).
  • Section 2: Present original versions of documents that establish your identity and employment eligibility.

Acceptable Form I-9 Documents

Present original versions in person at the CMUWorks Service Center.

Remote (off-site) individuals will follow Off-Site Form I-9 Instructions.

E-Verify Compliance

Depending on the projects to which you are assigned, Carnegie Mellon University may be required to electronically verify your employment eligibility using E-Verify. For more information, visit the Human Resources E-Verify page.

Onboarding and Personal Information

You will complete new hire onboarding in Workday, the HR system in which you access and maintain your personal information related to pay, taxes, and benefits. It is your responsibility to complete onboarding in a timely manner.

Note: You will receive Workday access via personal e-mail once your hiring department officially hires you.

Your Social Security Number

You must provide your Social Security Number (SSN) to your employer, Carnegie Mellon University. This is required for accurate payroll processing and taxation purposes.

Provide your SSN to the CMUWorks Service Center to update your employee record as soon as possible. If you do not have a SSN, you must apply for one.
