Advancing Toward Net Zero | June 24 – 25, 2013, Pomona, CA

The Cal Poly Pomona Department of Architecture and Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Inc. are pleased to announce a peer-reviewed technical symposium to explore the state of the art in professional and academic approaches and experiences related to the design and implementation of net zero buildings.

The Building Enclosure Sustainability Symposium (BESS) was initiated in 2009 through a partnership of the Department of Architecture at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona and Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Inc.  The symposium was designed to bring together professionals from academia, architecture, engineering and construction, as well as students, to discuss state-of-the-art sustainable building enclosure design.  In 2013, BESS will be partnering with SB13 to become BESS-SB13 CALIFORNIA.  SB13 is part of a major international series of Sustainable Building Conferences that focuses on sustainable building and construction supported by the International Initiative for a Sustainable Built Environment (iiSBE).  The SB conference series, now on a three-year cycle, is recognized as the world’s preeminent meeting in this important field.  The three-year conference cycle begins with a year of planning in 2012, followed by regional conferences in 2013, and culminates in an international event in 2014.  In 2013, BESS-SB13 CALIFORNIA will be one of nine regional conferences; the global conference will be held in Barcelona, Spain in 2014.
