About Us

TutorNet was established by Prof. Newell Washburn at CMU. Dr. Washburn worked as a tutor for four years with Mr. Bob Fabini, Chemistry and Physics Teacher at El Cerrito High School, while a doctoral student in Chemistry at the University of California (Berkeley). His experiences with this program inspired him to establish a similar program when he came to CMU as an Assistant Professor. The science tutoring program was formed in 2006 at the original Schenley High School and followed the teachers and students to their new school at the Reizenstein facility. TutorNet is designed to help Pittsburgh students learn about and be excited by science, and we rely on the enthusiasm and commitment to volunteerism of the CMU students as well as the dedication of the Pittsburgh school teachers.
