(Sent April 6th, 2021)

The CMU Student Organizing Coalition invites you to be a part of their inaugural meeting, this Saturday April 10 at noon EDT. The link to register can be found here: http://bit.ly/RegisterCoalitionCMU

What is the Student Organizing Coalition? A collaboration between different student organizations across campus, it’s a space to organize for the liberation of CMU students and improve working conditions. Some of the goals and intentions include education and information sharing, affinity space building, direct action, and networking for justice.

Interested? This google doc has the first drafts of the Coalition’s Community Agreement and Statement of Values — you are welcome to make comments directly, make edits to a copy to bring to the inaugural meeting, or follow-up here with questions/suggestions! And please feel free to pass this invitation on to your student members and any students that you think would be interested!

It’s still in its early stages, and instead of inviting you to a fully-formed organization, they wanted to create its core processes and values in collaboration with all the members — if this sounds interesting to you, your input is essential.

The organizers (from various organizations across campusCall To Action, CMU Against ICE, Roosevelt, and TINA) involved in planning so far are able to connect with you about any questions you may have. This is meant to be a collaborative effort across campus, so whether you’re an individual looking to join or your student organization is interested in partnering, please don’t hesitate to reach out to them!

All are welcome to participate in any capacity — if you are interested, you are welcome to send emails, contribute to setting the agenda, talk to them at length about your ideas, and/or take on a leadership role in the space!

If you can’t make the first meeting and are interested in learning more or joining, you can fill out this short interest form to stay connected to the organizers.

Thanks!
