GSA SociaLink

By Michael Sinko, VP of Graduate Student Life

GSA SociaLink is a resource to connect grad students who share interests in fun activities. Post an idea or event and invite people to join you, or find an event or group activity that you’d like to join!

As the fall semester begins and we settle back into our routines, remember to find some time for fun activities that you enjoy outside of class/teaching/research! GSA SociaLink is a resource to connect you with other grad students who share your interests. GSA launched SociaLink two years ago and we have been thrilled to see grad students connecting and finding groups of new friends while planning adventures around the area. SociaLink has many resources to help you plan an activity, such as ideas for activities in the Pittsburgh area and checklists for things like hiking, kayaking, bowling, salsa dancing and even more indoor activities. All of these resources can be found in the “Files” section of the GSA SociaLink Facebook group, and you can find the Read Me information sheet on how to successfully use SociaLink HERE

Joining SociaLink is so simple...  do it NOW!

  1. Login to facebook
  2. Search GSA SociaLink
  3. Request to be added! (You have to be a part of the CMU Community to send a request, an andrew.cmu.edu or cmu.edu email address is required to join)
  4. (A moderator adds you to the page) and BOOM! You’re in!

If you don’t have the time to plan your own event, you can always invite people to form a group to attend local events on and off campus. CMU has wonderful performing arts shows on campus with cheap or free tickets, depending on the specific show. For events around town you can look for inspiration at NextPittsburgh, EventBrite, Facebook events page,

This year, we are also introducing a GSA SociaLink Google Calendar where you can submit events and details and invite anyone to join. This is a great place for student orgs to publicize their events and for those that don’t use Facebook to connect. The calendar can be found here and you can join it using your CMU Andrew email, and events can be submitted to the calendar by filling out this form

Thank you for joining, and we hope that SociaLink serves as a meeting place for people of similar social interests outside of your home department. Enjoy!

Disclaimer: The GSA does not organize events but only provides the platform for students to meet. The GSA social committee members serve as moderators of the platform.
