Laser cutter/engraver ($15000) and exhaust filtration system ($2500). This would allow members to rapidly prototype and manufacture flat plastic parts, project enclosures, and structural components. This is complementary to the 3D printer, which we acquired last year, and many of our members have asked for laser cutting service (as there is no general-purpose access to laser cutting on campus). We would like to be the first to provide this service to the campus community (membership to the Robotics Club is open to all students, faculty, and staff). The exhaust filtration system is necessary because our space in the UC Basement does not currently have ventilation, and without filtration the exhaust from the machine would make the machine unsafe to use. |
