The Carnegie Mellon University Newman Club is a social, religious, and service organization for Catholics and people interested in Catholicism. We host events, and work with the Ryan Catholic Newman Center (run by the Pittsburgh Oratory) and the University of Pittsburgh's Catholic Newman Club.

All retreats, including the two that we hosted last semester (F12) and this semester (S13), happen at the Rednal retreat house in Ligonier, PA. We drive to Ligonier on Friday evenings and return by early Sunday afternoon. We cook our meals at the retreat house; we do groceries for our own supplies. Last semester, 12 people attended the retreat. This semester, 19 people attended the retreat. Meals and snacks for each retreat cost $150. details.

We decided to bring back large group events this year. Its purpose is to provide a time for community and a space to learn about the Catholic church's history, what it believes and doesn't believe, and how it can help us to live more meaningful lives. This fiscal year, large group events happen every other Thursday evening. The group has increased from 8 students (in the beginning of the year) to 18 (last month). For most large group events this past year, we either baked snacks (like cookies or brownies) or cooked a meal (like spaghetti). We purchased baking and cooking supplies. baking ingredients. We have ~7 large group events per semester this year (planning on doing for each semester) baking for each event costs ~$5

On All Saints Day, the Catholic Newman Club holds a Mass on campus for students, faculty and anyone who wants to celebrate Mass. Typically, we like to have a time to socialize after Mass, which includes food. The Newman Club held a feast after the All Saints Day Mass in the F12 semester. We ordered sandwiches from Jimmy Johns. About 20 people attended both the Mass and the following feast.
