Joyce Feng is a junior at Carnegie Mellon University studying Business Administration with an additional major in Environmental and Sustainability Studies and a minor in Human-Computer Interaction. Joyce has always been interested in consumer products—especially fashion and beauty—and the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) efforts made by these industries. She wanted to challenge herself in a discipline she wasn't familiar with academically and learn more about something she is passionate about, which led her to the ESS additional major. Joyce plans on pursuing a career in strategy consulting, specifically ESG strategy, and the ESS additional major has helped build an academic foundation for her to learn more about the topics that interest her.

Through the ESS additional major, she has learned about a variety of crucial environmental issues like biodiversity, climate change, waste management, and more. Together with her primary major, Business Administration, Joyce is able to learn about how to incorporate solutions for those issues into business strategies. Learning about sustainability in the classroom has also helped her in business case competitions, pro-bono consulting projects, and her work as a Sustainability Intern at Chartwells. Out of all of her experiences within the ESS program, taking "Introduction to Environmental Ideas" stood out most to Joyce, especially the variety of disciplines represented in the class. She enjoyed discussing and collaborating with students across schools, majors, and backgrounds who are all passionate about environmental issues.
