Active Shooter Awareness

An active shooter is defined as an individual actively engaging in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined or populated area.

Although the possibility of such an incident at CMU is unlikely, the subject is on the minds of many in our community due to recent events in the U.S. and worldwide.

The CMU Police are trained and equipped to respond to such a situation, but it is imperative that members of the community be informed as to their options should such a problem develop here.  The CMU video walks you through the phases of an active shooter incident.  The active shooter summary sheet lists your action options.  The link to the Homeland Security Website provides access to additional information and educational materials.

If your workgroup, class or organization is interested in an active shooter presentation, please contact Chief Aaron Lauth at alauth@andrew.cmu.edu.
