Permit FAQs

Faculty and staff should contact HR's Equal Opportunity Services Division.  Students wanting to obtain a handicap parking space should contact  Catherine Getchell, Director of Disability Resources.

P&TS will receive the necessary paperwork from the appropriate sources, and once you are granted a handicap space, you should display both the state-issued placard as well as the CMU-issued disabled hang tag.

If you wish to retain your parking while on a leave of absence, you must pay the monthly fee associated with the permit.  You have the ability to cancel at any time; however, parking in your current area may not be available upon your return.

If you are retaining your parking permit but wish to pay directly for your permit and cancel your payroll deduction, payment for the remainder of the year can be made at one time via cash, check, or credit card.

If you are canceling your parking permit, you will need to surrender your active hang tag and parking cards for the payroll deduction to be removed.  Please contact our office with any other questions regarding your payroll deduction.

You can decide at any time to cancel your parking permit.  To cancel, please visit our office located on the first floor of the East Campus Garage Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM or send an email to our office. You will be removed from both the parking and payroll database once we are in receipt of your gate card and hang tag.

If you've paid for your permit for the entire year, you will be refunded for the remaining months. All cancelled permits must be accommodated with proof of purchase in order to have your refund processed. Refunds are prorated at one-half a month for permits returned before the 15th of the month, and a full-month charge for any time after the 15th of the month.  If your permit is returned on the 1st day of the month, you will not be charged for that month.

The waiting list is reviewed on a consistent basis and spaces are allocated as space becomes available.  You will be contacted via the email you provided on your application.  The waiting lists progress when folks cancel their parking or leave the University.  There is no guarantee of receiving parking at CMU.

If you have forgotten your permit hang tag, please stop in our East Campus Garage office for a temporary tag to avoid receiving a parking citation.  The temporary tag is a one-time charge of $3.  If you are driving a rental vehicle for more than one day, you can obtain the temporary hang tag for a $3 charge for the duration of your rental car use.

All permit holders will receive a "one-time forgiveness" during each permit year for forgetting to display/ forgot a hang tag for one day only.  You would simply appeal the citation if you have forgotten your hang tag or did not have it displayed and received a citation; request the one-time forgiveness for the current academic year.

Yes.  P&TS policy (PDF) states that a parking permit hang tag must be displayed while parked on campus at all times.  To replace a lost or damaged hang tag, stop in our East Campus Garage office to receive a replacement for a one-time fee of $20.
