Principle Investigators
Gabi Kirilloff
Gabi Kirilloff is Assistant Professor of English and Computational Humanities at CMU. Her research uses digital methods to examine patterns and outliers in text-based corpora, and often combines computation and close reading to examine the relationship between gender and agency. Her work has appeared in journals including College Literature, Digital Scholarship in the Humanities, Journal of Cultural Analytics, and the Harvard Data Science Review. She has worked on a number of large scale digital projects, including The William Blake Archive, The Walt Whitman Archive, and The Willa Cather Archive. Kirilloff teaches classes on Women's Writing, digital methods, computational analysis, and video-games.
Claudia Carroll
Claudia Carroll is Assistant Professor of English and Computational Humanities at CMU. She received her PhD in English, specializing in characterization and computational literary studies, from the University of Notre Dame, where she was a Notebaert Premier Fellow. Her research uses machine learning to study characterization in fiction, with a focus on the nineteenth-century novel, and the computational analysis of narrative form in AI-generated literature. Her research is published or forthcoming in venues including Poetics Today, the Harvard Data Science Review, Digital Scholarship in the Humanities and the Routledge Handbook of AI and Literature. For her work on narrative structure, she is the recipient of the 2022 Alan Nadal Prize from the International Society for the Study of Narrative.
