Pride Month 2021

"It takes no compromise to give people their rights. It takes no money to respect the individual. It takes no political deal to give people freedom. It takes no survey to remove repression." — Harvey Milk

Please join me in the jubilation, recognition, and honoring of the many Carnegie Mellon University LGBTQ+ members and the varied voices of Pride in our world who contribute daily to the work of equality, equity, justice, and inclusion. I thank and remember those who have been on the front lines of defending justice and human rights. I proudly lift up those who have sacrificed so much to create a world where everyone is respected, welcomed, and embraced for exactly who they are.

Pride Month reminds us that we must continue to speak loudly and be steadfast to remove hatred and prejudice to ensure that all LGBTQ+ individuals within our community and across the world are safe, free of bias, and discrimination. Hope alone cannot bring about deserved justice and human rights — we must all do the work.
