New Guidance for Those Fully Vaccinated
Dear Members of the Carnegie Mellon University Community:
As we begin the summer term, I am pleased to announce the easing of certain COVID-19 mitigation protocols on campus for those who have been fully vaccinated. We have decided to ease these restrictions based on the tremendous response rate to our vaccine survey and the very high percentage of respondents who indicated they have been vaccinated. We are also encouraged by the high rate of vaccine adoption in Allegheny County as well as the decreasing spread of the virus in our community.
Effective tomorrow, those community members who have been fully vaccinated no longer need to wear facial coverings on campus (including inside campus facilities), complete the daily self-assessment, or participate in Tartan Testing before coming to campus. By “fully vaccinated” we mean that someone has completed an approved vaccine protocol and at least two weeks have passed since the final vaccine dose. For the summer months we expect individuals to use the honor system as to whether they qualify for the easing of these restrictions; individuals who have not been fully vaccinated must still comply with all mitigation requirements. Further, certain functions/areas on campus, such as health services and child care settings, may still require certain mitigations even for vaccinated individuals. Guidelines regarding mitigation requirements for the fall will be shared later this summer.
In the coming days, we will be communicating an upcoming change to our campus posture, including increases to capacities for indoor and outdoor spaces, approvals for returning to work and other campus activities, access for visitors and the easing of restrictions on domestic business travel.
On behalf of the university’s leadership, thank you for your diligence in adhering to our mitigation protocols this past academic year. Through our collective efforts we have limited the spread of COVID-19 within our community and reached this important milestone.
