Doctoral Student Participatory Workshop
on Climate and Energy Decision Making

On May 13-14, 2025, Carnegie Mellon University will host a workshop for PhD students and post-docs working on the technical and behavioral aspects of climate mitigation, adaption, resilience, and deep decarbonization to present their work, meet other young investigators, and exchange ideas on these complex problems.

Participants will present 15-minute talks, followed by 10 minutes of feedback from prominent experts from academia, industry, and environmental NGOs. Each day will also feature faculty-led sessions and opportunities for networking.

Reimbursement info

For the selected students who are receiving reimbursement for travel expenses...

  • Travel Reimbursement Guidelines:

    • Amount: Up to $1000.00
    • Flights
      • Must be a round trip (e.g., Los Angeles–Pittsburgh–Los Angeles). If you have unusual circumstances, contact Kim before booking.
        • Non-Reimbursable Items: Tickets purchased with airline miles, coupons, or credits.
      • Required Documentation: Airline receipt showing full payment and itinerary.
      • Baggage Fees: Included within the $1,000.00 limit.
    • Driving Reimbursement
      • Provide a map that shows the mileage (e.g., screenshot of Google Maps) from your home address to 5000 Forbes Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15213. You will be reimbursed at IRS Standard Government rate of .70 per mile. (https://www.irs.gov/tax-professionals/standard-mileage-rates).
      • Tolls: Reimbursable, no receipt needed for amounts under $75 (please note toll costs in your email).

    Reimbursement Process:

    After your visit you will receive an email from cmu-ecm-formsDONOTREPLY@andrew.cmu.edu with a link to the Non-Employee Reimbursement form. You will need to provide:

  1. Your name and full mailing address
  2. Banking details
  3. Responses to three required questions

Important Notes:

  • Review the form before submission and ensure all fields are completed to avoid delays. 
  • Email all receipts to Kim directly on this email chain—do not upload them to the reimbursement form.
  • Do not include any receipts for amounts under $75.00.
  • Processing takes 4–6 weeks after submission. 
  • You will receive reimbursement via direct deposit at the banking information provided on the form.
