Bio
Mark D’Angelo joined Carnegie Mellon University in August 2021 and currently serves as the manager of educational initiatives and engagement in the Office of the Vice Provost for Community, Culture and Engagement. In this role, D’Angelo works with the entire campus community to advance the mission of inclusive excellence (IE) at CMU through the development and implementation of professional development opportunities, signature university-wide cultural programs, and custom-designed educative workshops and initiatives that endeavor to cultivate knowledge, belonging, inclusion, compassion and empathy. In his role, he also supports, connects, uplifts and enhances other IE efforts, policies, programs and professional development opportunities across the university.
Prior to joining CMU, D’Angelo served as an assistant director within the Division of Student Life at the University of Delaware in a role dedicated to improving student experiences through the development and implementation of IE programs and workshops for students, staff and faculty. He also worked in a similar capacity at Salisbury University within the Office of Institutional Equity and began his career in higher education as a graduate assistant for LGBTQ+ Student Outreach & Support at Boston College. Before transitioning into higher education, Mark worked as a public school teacher in New Jersey where he foregrounded IE efforts in his classroom practice. Overall, he has extensive experience in the field of education focusing on IE issues and student support.
D’Angelo received his bachelor of science in geological sciences from Rutgers University and his master of arts in elementary education from The College of New Jersey. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate in curriculum and instruction with a focus on the sociopolitical impacts on public education at Boston College. He has presented at several symposia and national and international conferences and has been awarded for the same.
