Vice Provost for Academic Budget and Financial Planning

Mary Glasscock was named Carnegie Mellon’s vice provost for academic budget and financial planning in December 2024. In this role, she provides strategic direction for managing the overall institutional budget, resource planning, and administrative processes for the academic units reporting to the Office of the Provost, as well as developing financial models and providing budget guidance for academic strategic initiatives. Her role reinforces CMU’s strategic goals for the university community to focus on efficient, effective, transparent, and agile business practices to support the growing needs of an evolving organization.

Prior to joining CMU, Glasscock held a number of leadership roles throughout her 22-year career at Georgetown University, where she served in various leadership capacities, including chief financial officer, chief operating officer and vice president of operations, administration and strategic initiatives at Georgetown University Medical Center (GUMC). She has a demonstrated track record of strategic financial planning, budget management and aligning resources to support academic priorities.

Throughout her career, Glasscock has established an impressive record of impactful leadership. She successfully harmonized research administration between Georgetown's Main and Medical Center campuses, resulting in a significant double-digit increase in research proposals while establishing a premier administrative structure across a complex multi-campus environment. Demonstrating her commitment to cultivating a positive workplace culture, Glasscock developed the peer-reviewed GUMC Staff Community Awards program to recognize staff members who exemplify positivity, perseverance and resilience. She also established GUMC's first-ever certified research administrators (CRA) training program and learning platform, elevating professional standards and creating new pathways for administrative excellence within the institution.

Outside of work, Glasscock is very active in the higher education community holding a national chairman position for the Association of Academic Medical Centers (AAMC), and multiple subcommittees chairs for both the Eastern Association of College and University Business Officers (EACUBO) and National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA). She has been a presenter or moderator during annual conferences, including sessions such as Strengthening Financial Resilience of Academic Medical Centers (AAMC), Fostering Agility in Your Institution’s Capital Planning (EACUBO), Growing your CRA Program One Administrator at a Time (NCURA), and If You Build It, They Will Thrive (SRA).

Glasscock earned her master of business administration from the Carey Business School at Johns Hopkins University and her bachelor of science in accounting from the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech. She also holds numerous professional certificates from Cornell and Georgetown Universities.
