University Store Closed for Inventory

The University Store will be closed for inventory June 22-26. Computer Sales will remain open on Friday, June 22, for departmental customers. All University Store business operations will be closed Monday and Tuesday, June 25-26.

Access to Warner Hall Lot Restricted Saturday

Access to the Warner Hall parking lot and Purnell Center/Miller Gallery loading dock will be restricted between 6 a.m. and noon, Saturday, June 23.  AT&T will be replacing its equipment on the roof of Warner Hall during this time and the installation will require a crane to lift the equipment onto the roof.

Urban Active Fitness Offers Discounts for CMU Employees

Staff Council has teamed up with Urban Active Fitness in Bakery Square to offer discounted gym memberships to Carnegie Mellon employees and their immediate family members. There are two types of discounts available.
 
In the monthly option, subscribers can join by paying $94.90, which includes a one-time enrollment fee of $54.95 and the monthly fee of $39.95.  (Current regular rates are $99 down and $49.99 per month). The annual option allows you to buy a one-year membership for $550 and get a second year free.

Access Free Online Software Training

Carnegie Mellon has partnered with lynda.com, an online training company, to provide all staff, faculty and students with access to its online training library. The lynda.com training library provides 24/7 access to training on more than 900 software and design topics, with a library of more than 55,000 video tutorials. You can access the lynda.com training library simply by going to www.cmu.edu/lynda from any computer or mobile device and logging in with your Andrew userID and password. FMS Alert: Work Continues on Walkway Behind Gates

Facilities Management Services reports that work to widen the asphalt serpentine walkway behind the Gates Building will continue through the end of June. The initial work will be excavation and re-routing irrigation mains that are in the vicinity of the widening as well as the lower concrete curbs near the Doherty loading dock drive.  There will also be work at the rear of Gates Level 3 that has been damaged by carts. The serpentine is closed to all traffic including pedestrians as there is a one-foot drop off on the edges of the walkway. FMS Alert: Concrete Repair Work Begins Along Forbes and East/West Walkway

The sidewalk along the Cyert Hall side of Forbes Avenue, from Hamburg Hall to Morewood Avenue, is closed for repairs through June 25. Please follow signage. This work is expected to be completed by June 25, weather permitting.
 
The East/West Walkway from the Purnell Center to West Wing and Resnik Hall also is being repaired. Half of the sidewalk will be closed at a time to permit pedestrian traffic through the area. Please pay attention to areas that are closed. This work will continue through the end of July, weather permitting.

Andy Award Nominations Due July 10

Nominations for the 2012 Andy Awards are due July 10. The Andy Awards, named for Andrew Carnegie and Andrew Mellon, are a tribute to the spirit of teamwork and dedication embodied by the staff at Carnegie Mellon. Individual staff members and teams of colleagues whose work has had a significant impact on the university are recognized for their outstanding performance and commitment to excellence through the Andy Awards program. 3-D Facial Study Seeks Participants

The Department of Oral Biology at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking individuals between the ages of 3 and 40 who are in good overall health for a study on the genetic basis of facial appearance. You or your child may be eligible if you are of 100 percent Caucasian ancestry, have not had facial plastic or reconstructive surgery, and have no history of facial birth defects in your family. Participants will have a 3-D photograph taken of their face, have hand and head measurements taken, and must provide a saliva sample and basic personal information.
