Joint Research Project To Improve Prostate, Liver Cancer Diagnosis and Prognosis

Department of HealthCarnegie Mellon recently received nearly $1 million from Pennsylvania's Commonwealth Universal Research Enhancement (CURE) program to develop digital image analysis tools that will guide physicians in identifying and treating aggressive prostate cancer tumors and pediatric liver tumors. MORE

Alumna Wins Entrepreneurial Contest

Tess LojaconoTess Lojacono is returning to Pittsburgh with a dream.

Lojacono, a graduate of Carnegie Mellon's College of Fine Arts, recently won $100,000 in Pittsburgh's Experienced Dreamers contest, a national competition that invited entrepreneurs 45 years of age or older to submit proposals to launching their dream venture in Pittsburgh.

Denis Colwell Named Head of the School of Music

ColwellDenis Colwell, associate professor of music, has been named the new head of the School of Music, effective August 2012.  Colwell has served as interim head since October 2011; he has been a faculty member since 1992, teaching instrumental conducting and directing the Carnegie Mellon Wind Ensemble. He was assistant head of the School of Music from 1987 through 1994. MORE

Professor Shi-Chune Yao Named Acting Head of Mechanical Engineering

YaoProfessor Shi-Chune (S. C.) Yao will become acting department head of Mechanical Engineering, effective September 1. Yao takes the helm from Nadine Aubry, who left CMU to become dean of the College of Engineering at Northeastern University. MORE
