Lisa Krieg
Associate Vice President for Global Strategic Initiatives and Institutional Accreditation

Lisa Krieg is the associate vice president for global strategic initiatives and institutional accreditation as of June 1, 2023. In this inaugural role, Krieg leads the university’s Middle States accreditation and U.S. state compliance responsibilities for educational delivery, and supports CMU’s international initiatives. She engages the community in support of strategic goals that impact the delivery of CMU’s education mission globally, and coordinates emerging international opportunities and ongoing partnerships on behalf of the Provost.   

Since joining CMU in 2000, Krieg has held multiple leadership positions of increasing responsibility and scope. From 2009 to 2023, Krieg served as associate vice president and director of Enrollment Services, leading her division’s strategic and operational efforts focused on undergraduate retention and persistence, student finances, cohesive service provision for all CMU campuses and locations, staff and leadership development, advancement of the S3 (Student Services Suite) student information system IT ecosystem, and special projects such as preferred name and student identity data guidelines, graduate student admission and enrollment data, and parental and family engagement, among others. In this role, Krieg oversaw significant financial responsibilities including over $800 million of direct student charges and collections, $120 million in undergraduate student aid, and multi-million dollar technology implementation and systems improvement plans. In 2018, she accepted the additional role of the director of International Programs. From 2001 to 2008, she served as director of the Office of International Education (OIE). 

In addition to her organizational responsibilities, Krieg leads highly impactful institution-wide duties. From 2016 to 2018, she served as co-chair of the self-study effort as part of CMU’s successful reaccreditation effort with the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). In 2018, CMU’s President charged her as the university’s MSCHE accreditation liaison officer. In this capacity,  she manages CMU’s institutional accreditation oversight in the U.S. and globally, as well as compliance for educational delivery in states other than Pennsylvania, and delivery of education by distance modalities. From 2020 to 2022, Krieg co-chaired the Provost’s Coronavirus Planning Committee on Academic Matters, navigating the impacts of the pandemic on students and faculty, and addressing operational and communication necessities for CMU’s teaching and learning environments. She fronted issues such as academic calendar modifications, hybrid and remote course modality assignment, campus density, student exchange between CMU locations, students’ physical locations and financial planning.

Among her awards and recognitions, Krieg is a Fulbright International Administrators grantee, a recipient of a CMU Andy Award for Outstanding University Citizenship, and a nominee along with other S3 team members for the Andy Award for Innovation. She is a former member of the Association of American Universities (AAU) constituent group for chief enrollment managers, serving as co-chair from 2018 to 2022. In 2022, Krieg was an invited speaker to the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA) leadership and legislative conference. 

Krieg has served in leadership roles on Pittsburgh nonprofit boards including Contemporary Craft, the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania and North Hills Community Outreach. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Cornell University and master’s degree from Columbia University’s Teachers College.
