Software
Carnegie Mellon Computing Services’ division maintains campus licensing for a number of software products. Some of the software is available for download based on your affiliation (i.e., student, faculty or staff); other software products are available in the public computing clusters to anyone with a valid Andrew ID. Clusters offer 50 Macintosh packages, 66 Windows packages and 23 Linux packages. Other software is licensed for sale through the Computer Sales area of the University Store at a discounted price.
The purpose of the Software Licensing Office is to acquire site and volume software licenses for students, staff, faculty, and researchers. The Software Licensing Office has also established guidelines for software acquistion and retention. The office uses an Advisory Committee to assist in making acquistion and retention decisions. This committee is made up of at least one faculty/staff representative from each college.
