Network Registration Help
- On the Network Registration web page, select Register New Machine.
- The Register a New Machine screen appears. From the drop-down menu, select the building location for your WIRED connection, and then click Continue.
- Select the appropriate Subnet location and then click Continue.
- A new screen appears. Complete the Hostname section as follows:
- first field (OPTIONAL): enter a vanity name or leave this field blank for an auto-generated name.
- second field: enter res.cmu.edu (residence hall rooms) OR enter your group/department or andrew.cmu.edu (other locations).
- Complete the other fields as follows:
- Hardware Address: completed for you.
- Affiliation: select the appropriate affiliation (faculty and staff - select the appropriate department).
- Submit your registration. One of the following messages will appear:
- Error - The Register a New Machine screen appears with a red box indicating the problem. Contact the Help Center for assistance (advisor@andrew.cmu.edu or 412-268-4357).
- Success - The new registration name appears in a green box followed by a list of your registered machines.
- Complete the other fields as follows:
Network-Enabled Devices
Device Does Not Have a Web Browser
- From a computer, go to the NetReg site netreg.net.cmu.edu/.
- Click Register New Machine. Enter the required information for your device.
Manual Configuration
Consult the device manual, for help with manual configuration.
To find your device configuration information:
- From a computer, go to the NetReg site netreg.net.cmu.edu/.
- Click the device hostname and then click View Network Configuration Information.
Registered but, still have only limited access
Consider the following:
Cause: New wired network registrations may take 15-30 minutes to fully activate.
Solution: Wait at least 30 minutes from the time of registration and then try accessing the Internet again.
Cause: Your web browser or network application's name and address have old information saved.
Solution: Quit and relaunch your web browser or network application.
Cause: Your operating system's network name and address have old information saved.
Solution: Reboot your computer or clear your operating system's network name and address cache, and then relaunch your web browser.
Cause: Your web browser cache has old information saved.
Solution: Clear your web browser cache.
Managed Computers
If your Windows 7 computer is managed AND you log into your computer with credentials other than your Andrew userID and password, please follow the Managed Computer steps to connect to the CMU-SECURE wireless network.
