CMWA celebrates outstanding senior students with scholarship awards

Carnegie Mellon Women’s Association (CMWA) members, staff, faculty, friends and family gathered to celebrate and honor this year’s CMWA scholarship award recipients.

During an evening reception in Simmons Auditorium on Monday, May 1, CMWA awarded seven $1,500 scholarships to one graduating senior student from each college.

The CMWA Fund awards scholarships to selected graduating senior students with a preference for students who demonstrate a commitment to the advancement of women in their academic pursuits. Deans and department heads of the colleges collaborate to select the best of the best senior students as CMWA's scholarship recipients.

This year’s scholarship recipients include:
  • Prashanti Anderson, School of Computer Science (Nominated by Dr. Tom Cortina, Teaching Professor and Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs in the School of Computer Science)
  • Maegan Bogetti, Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences (Nominated by Dr. Kelli Lammie Maxwell, Associate Dean for Student Success at Dietrich College; Dr. Andrew Scott Ramey, Senior Academic Advisor in the Department of History)

Following CMWA President Stefanie Santo’s opening remarks, each recipient – including a cancer research assistant, a musician, a Fulbright research grantee, associate scientist and more – shared a reflection about their experience at Carnegie Mellon and their next steps after graduation.

The scholarship funds will provide financial support to the inspiring cohort for the next steps after graduation with the goal to enhance their overall well-being.

"Congratulations to our scholarship recipients on your outstanding achievements! We are proud to support you on your academic journey, and we thank our members for their generous contributions that have made these scholarships possible," said Santo. "Together, we can make a difference in the lives of students and contribute to a brighter future."
