Mawhinney Named Executive Director of CMU's Swartz Center

Dave Mawhinney has been named executive director of the Swartz Center for Entrepreneurship, CMU's hub for entrepreneurial research and education.

In addition to holding posts at CMU's Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and the Donald H. Jones Center for Entrepreneurship at the Tepper School of Business, Mawhinney co-founded four startups, including mSpoke, which was bought by LinkedIn in 2010.

His appointment was announced in a letter to the university community from Provost and Chief Academic Officer Farnam Jahanian. Lenore Blum and Jonathan Cagan were also named faculty co-directors.

Last summer, James R. Swartz gifted $31 million to fund the Swartz Center. Its campuswide launch is planned for fall 2016, according to the Center's website. Read More»
