CMU's 2013 Periodic Review Report
Commended by MSCHE

The Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE or Middle States) reaffirmed Carnegie Mellon's accreditation and commended CMU for the quality of the Periodic Review process and report. This action was taken at the Commission's November 21, 2013 meeting.

Carnegie Mellon was required to provide a Periodic Review Report (PRR) to Middle States in June 2013; the PRR is akin to a "midterm" report following the University's 2008 Self-Study review. The report [login required] is a compilation of data and information from more than 70 faculty and staff, and the report's many iterations were enhanced by comments received via email and open town hall meetings on campus.

As required by MSCHE, the report contains six sections: (1) executive summary; (2) responses to recommendations emerging from our 2008 Self-Study process and peer reviewer visit; (3) major challenges and opportunities; (4) analysis of enrollment and finance projections; (5) evidence of sustained and organized processes to assess institutional effectiveness and student learning, and the use of assessment results to improve programs and services and inform planning and resource allocation decisions; and (6) evidence that linked institutional planning and budgeting processes are in place.

The University's next reaccreditation review will occur during the 2017-2018 academic year.
