March 2012:  Scott wins the NSF East Asia and Pacific Summer Institute for U.S. Graduate Students (EAPSI) Fellowship to study in the Maruyama-Shiomi Laboratory at the University of Tokyo.  Great Scott! 


February 2012:  Jon wins the NSF CAREER Award for his proposal titled “Thermal Energy Transport in Organic-Inorganic Hybrid Materials.


November 2011: Wee-Liat passes his qualifying exam on the first try.  Great Job!


September 2011: Zoey wins the Dowd-ICES Graduate Fellowship.  Congratulations Zoey!


September 2011:  Jon, Alan McGaughey, Robert Davis, and Tanya Paskova (Kyma Technologies) win NSF Grant titled “GOALI: Thermal Transport by Phonons in Device-Grade Nitride Nanostructures”.


August 2011: Spencer Wyant wins best NSF REU project at CMU for his study of thermal conductivity in organic-inorganic hybrid materials.  Congratulations and good luck to Spencer!


June 2011: Jon wins the American Chemical Society, Petroleum Research Fund, Doctoral New Investigator Award for his proposal titled “Coupling of Electrons, Photons, and Vibrations in Hydrocarbon Based Molecular Junctions”. CMU link.


May 2011:  A team of 7 investigators from ME, MSE, and ECE, lead by Jon wins Carnegie Mellon internal infrastructure grant add an optical microscope and high-speed opto-electronics to the Thermal Sciences Labs.


May 2011: Wee-Liat wins the Steinbrenner Graduate Fellowship through the Steinbrenner Institute for Environmental Education & Research.


May 2011: REU student Spencer Wyant joins us. 


April 2011: Zoey wins Best Poster at Carnegie Mellon University Bennett Conference.  Nice work Zoey!


April 2011:  Jon gives an invited talk at MRS about thermal transport in organic-inorganic hybrid materials.


November 2010:  Jon wins the AFOSR Young Investigator Award for his proposal titled “Tunable Thermal Conductance in Heterostructured Interfaces”.  AFOSR press releaseCMU press release.

August 2010: Wee-Liat Ong joins the group from NUS.


July 2010: David Ring, our NSF REU Student, won Best Research Project in Carnegie Mellon’s REU program for his study of ZT in nanostructured materials.   Congratulations David! 


May 2010: A team of 8 investigators from ME, MSE, ChemE, and EE, lead by Jon wins Carnegie Mellon internal infrastructure grant to build a Frequency Domain Thermoreflectance setup.


April 2010: Scott wins the Steinbrenner Graduate Fellowship through the Steinbrenner Institute for Environmental Education & Research


July 2009:  Jon arrives in Pittsburgh, followed shortly thereafter by Zoey and Scott.
