Back to School Tech Success

Welcome to the 2020 fall semester! This school year is a little different from any you've experienced. Whether you're remote or on campus, we're here to ensure you have a successful semester.

If you haven't done so already, follow our Tech Quick Start guide to make sure your tech is ready for the fall semester. You can also follow us on Instagram where we'll share tech tips for Zoom, Google products and much more. Search for #TechTuesdayCMU and #TechLifeCMU on Instagram and YouTube.

Our featured changes this year include enhanced tips to help you Zoom your way into online instruction, a Virtual Andrew upgrade as well as new technology for hybrid classroom spaces.

New VPN Options

When you connect your computer or mobile device to a CMU Virtual Private Network (VPN), your device will act as if it's on campus. This means you'll be able to securely access CMU resources even when you’re out of the country. Check out our updated VPN options to prepare to connect remotely.

Keep Zoom Updated

Make sure your Zoom application is up to date to ensure you have the latest features and security enhancements.

Want to keep unwanted guests from joining your meeting? Never share Zoom join links or Meeting IDs in a public location, such as a web page, bulletin board or newsletter. For additional guidance, see our Secure a Meeting or Class page.

Virtual Faxing Solution

Available to faculty and staff cloud faxing gives you the functionality of a fax machine using only email. Send and receive faxes in PDF or TIFF format using your desktop or mobile email with this HIPAA- and FERPA-compliant tool.

Additional Wireless Security

The CMU-SECURE wireless network now has an extra layer of security with private IP addresses. When you're connected to CMU-SECURE, your device is visible outside our network, but cannot be scanned from the internet.

Cyber Security Checkup

Start the school year with a Cyber Security checkup! Secure your devices, account and files, and take control of your online safety.
