The Schwartz lab works on computational cancer genomics with particular focus on tumor evolution and heterogeneity. Much of our work is focused on developing computational models and algorithms to construct more realistic models of clonal evolution in cancers from various combinations of data sources and mutational mechanisms. A particular interest there has been understanding mechanisms of evolution by copy number alterations (CNAs). We are also developing machine learning methods for better predicting cancer progression risk from genomic and other data sources and in applying such methods to understand how variation in mutational processes patient-to-patient contribute to cancer risk.
