Navigation-Templates and CMS - Carnegie Mellon University

Navigation of a website is divided into three main areas: primary navigation, secondary navigation, and header navigation.

Left Navigation

Primary and secondary navigations comprise the left navigation. Learn more about creating the left navigation.

Header Navigation

Header navigation appears in the gray bar immediately below the red bar at the top and is optional. Learn more about creating the header navigation.

Breadcrumb and Footer Links

In addition to the three main areas of navigation, breadcrumb and footer links offer additional methods of navigating the site and providing links.

Footer and Breadcrumb Links

Breadcrumb Links

Breadcrumb links provide a convenient way of referencing the location of the page being viewed in relation to the home page (the first breadcrumb link). Breadcrumb links are automatically generated and are not configurable.

Footer Links

Footer links are provided near the bottom of every page. Learn more about creating footer links.
