Computing in SCS Hit Hard by Water Main Break

The electrical and cabling infrastructure in the School of Computer Science's (SCS) machine room was severely damaged due to yesterday's (Dec. 5) water main break in Wean Hall.

As of 10 a.m., this morning, the SCS network is up and running. Kerberos, AFS, and e-mail (including the IMAP and UX servers) are also operational as are the Windows domains and Web servers. But what is not currently available is the exchange server, printing, VPN and IPASS.

"We have limited electrical access to those machine rooms. We'll be working around the clock to restore the services as quickly as possible," says Kelly Mullins, manager of business functions and level one support for SCS.
