Carnegie Mellon University's School of Drama will perform the breakthrough Tony Award®-winning Broadway musical "Urinetown" through Dec. 10. The School of Drama was the first theatre group in Pennsylvania given the license to perform the show.

According to the School of Drama, "Urinetown" is the politically incorrect saga of a Pay-Per-Pee toilet entrepreneur who's grown rich by squeezing every last drop—of money—out of the victims of a terrible drought. It all seems in danger of going down the drain when his daughter, Hope, falls in love with hero Bobby Strong, leader of a free wee-wee revolution! No part of America's musical theatre history is spared in this satire.

"Urinetown" is based on the book and lyrics by Greg Kotis and the music and lyrics of Mark Hollmann. Before it hit Broadway, "Urinetown" began at New York's famed Fringe Festival and moved to a small off-Broadway house. Since then, the show has won three Tony Awards, three Outer Circle Critics Awards, two Lucille Lortel Awards and two Obie Awards.

The School of Drama's production will feature John Carrafa, a member of the original creative team on "Urinetown" and Tony-nominated original choreographer of the production, as guest director. Carrafa said his involvement is a tribute to the high standard of musical theatre training he sees when he encounters Carnegie Mellon students in audition situations.

Carrafa, an internationally acclaimed director and choreographer, received a Tony Award nomination for his choreography of "Into the Woods." His other Broadway choreography credits include "Dirty Blonde" and "Dance of the Vampires." He also choreographed 20 feature films including "The Thomas Crown Affair," "The Last Days of Disco" and "The Polar Express."
