University Employees at PPG Place Dismissed Due to Water Main Break

Carnegie Mellon employees working in PPG Six were dismissed today because of a water main break downtown. Carnegie Mellon employees who plan to travel downtown today for meetings at PPG or elsewhere should stay alert to traffic advisories and detours and exercise caution when walking or driving in a flooded area.

A water main break near Fort Duquesne Boulevard forced police to barricade streets around Gateway Center in Downtown Pittsburgh this morning. Drivers are being asked to stay away from Fort Duquesne Boulevard, the 10th Street Bypass, Commonwealth Place, Penn Avenue, Stanwix Street, Fifth Avenue, Liberty Avenue and Sixth Street in the area.

City Public Works Director Guy Costa told news organizations that the basements and first floors of 10 buildings were flooded. Numerous others in Downtown were reporting low water pressure following the massive break that occurred around 10:40 a.m.
