A project initiated by the students is in the works that will retrofit some academic buildings with "green" roofs. A green roof reduces cooling and heating energy consumption, protects the roof's structural elements from UV rays, extends the life of the roof, and lowers storm water waste streams. Locations on Carnegie Mellon's campus include:
- The new Posner Center and Gallery
- Hamerschlag Hall
- Mellon Institute (tray system)
- Doherty Hall student demonstration trays
