Environment Across the Curriculum Initiative
An initiative of Carnegie Mellon's Environmental Institute, the goal
of this program is to provide opportunities for all Carnegie Mellon
undergraduate students to learn about environmental issues as part
of their regular course work, regardless of their major. The concept
behind EAC is that any productive member of society-whether pursuing
an environmental career or not-needs to have at least a minimum understanding
of environmental issues and how they affect our lives.
The EAC initiative includes guest lectures, laboratory experiments,
group projects, field trips and other class activities that blend
naturally with materials in existing core courses. The EAC was originally
funded by the National Science Foundation and by grants from several
industries.
