Welcome to Green Practices!

In 1990 Carnegie Mellon adopted a formal recycling policy and appointed campus Recycling Liaisons to implement the policy. The liaisons adopted the "Reduce, Reuse, Recycling" theme and promoted campus wide efforts to reduce waste.

In 1998, the Green Practices Committee was established to develop a more comprehensive waste reduction and energy conservation program. The committee, which is comprised of staff, faculty and students, establish priorities, goals, and mechanisms for implementing environmental practices.

Congratulations to ARCC for winning Environmental Award for Spring Carnival 2009!!

Student organizations competed for a variety of booth design honors, including the Excellence in Environmental Building Practices Award.

Gary Saulson, director of corporate real estate for PNC Bank, was part of the judging team and awarded $500 to (ARCC) for the most "green" booth based upon materials selection, waste minimization, lighting efficiency and overall environmental stewardship and innovation.   As a world-wide leader in green building, PNC supports Carnegie Mellon's initiative to raise awareness of our responsibility as stewards of the environment.  We appreciated their participation and award.

Other judges were alumni and architect Henry Finch, architect researcher Aziz Azizzan, and environmental coordinator Barbara Kviz.

Awareness Of Roots In Chinese Culture (ARCC) is a student organization at Carnegie Mellon University whose goal is to spread knowledge about and appreciation of Chinese culture. Learn more about their organization at http://www.cmuarcc.com
