Prior to joining Carnegie Mellon, Carol spent over twenty years as a legal and business advisor focused on the development and commercialization of new technology.  Most recently, Carol worked as Senior Patent Attorney and then external counsel for Seagate Technology where she counseled the CTO, technical directors, and business partners; structured and negotiated agreements including licenses, government funded joint venture agreements, university sponsored research agreements, and consortium agreements; and grew and managed an international intellectual property portfolio.  Carol’s other experiences include working as an associate in global law firms and as a Patent Examiner at the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.

Carol has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and a law degree from Duquesne University School of Law.  She is a registered patent attorney at the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office and is admitted to practice law in Pennsylvania.
