Install Symantec AntiVirus

  1. Determine which of the following applies to you and take the appropriate action:
    • If you have an older version of Symantec  (e.g., 8.x, 9.x), you should NOT uninstall it.
    • If you have anti-virus software other than Symantec  (e.g., McAfee, Norton 360, etc.) installed on your computer, you SHOULD UNINSTALL it before installing Symantec Endpoint Protection.  For help with uninstalling other antivirus software, refer to the software vendor site or to Step 4 of the Steps to Clean Your Windows Computer document.
  2. Download Symantec AntiVirus.
  3. Close all open applications.
  4. Double-click the installer you downloaded to begin the installation.
  5. As you step through the installation process, select Typical for the type of installation. Accept the default response for other options presented during the installation process.
  6. Once the installation completes, the InstallShield Wizard Complete screen appears. Shortly after, Symantec will automatically launch LiveUpdate. This step assures that you have the latest virus definition files. Be sure to allow this to finish.
  7. Once LiveUpdate completes, click Close to exit Live Update.
