Install Symantec (Mac)

IMPORTANT: You must first remove ALL other anti-virus software. An uninstaller which will remove previous versions of Symantec is available on the Symantec Endpoint Protection download page. See the vendor's instructions for help removing other anti-virus products.

Step 1: Download and Install

  1. Download Symantec Endpoint Protection for Mac.
  2. Double-click Symantec Endpoint Protection.dmg to mount the installer volume, then double-click Symantec Endpoint Protection Installer.
  3. You will see a warning that a system restart will be required. Click Continue.
  4. Click Agree & Install. Enter an administrator username and password if prompted.
  5. When almost complete, the installer will prompt you to restart your computer.  Click Close & Restart.

Step 2: Complete the Installation

  1. When your computer restarts, download the latest application updates and virus definitions by clicking on the Symantec sheild icon in the menu bar and selecting LiveUpdate > Open LiveUpdate.
  2. Click Update Now.
  3. When LiveUpdate is complete, you will see a list of installed updates, if there were any.  Click OK.  Symantec Endpoint Protection is now installed and active.

Step 3: Scan Your Computer

  1. From the Symantec shield icon in the menu bar, select Symantec Endpoint Protection > Open Symantec Endpoint Protection.
    Note: If a red X appears indicating that Virus and Spyware Protection is disabled, click Settings and toggle the Virus and Spyware Protection switch to the on position. Click Status to return to the previous screen.
  2. Select Run full scan from the Scan menu in the lower right corner of the Symantec window.
  3. The scan will take some time to run.
  4. Click OK when complete.
