Andrew Mailman Service Improvements (2/16)

On February 16, 2017, Computing Services will update the default settings for Andrew Mailman Sender Filters. This change will result in several improvements to the appearance and behavior of list posts for subscribers.

What this means for list subscribers

  • Improved appearance of sender addresses in the message list. Where it's not necessary, email headers will no longer be modified to look like the message is coming from the Mailman list. The result is display of the true sender in the message list.
  • “Reply All” will include the mailing list address in addition to the individual in the “Reply To” header.
  • Improved recognition of posts by non-members to umbrella mailing lists (lists subscribed to other lists). Previous complexities in managing acceptance of posts from non-member addresses should be resolved.

Technical Details

These improvements are the result of a change to the default setting of the from_is_list option. Previously hidden, it will now appear under the General list options. For details regarding Mailman options and default settings, visit Moderation and Sender Filters.
