The Edward and Rose Berman Hillel Jewish University Center (JUC) of Pittsburgh will honor Carnegie Mellon University President Jared L. Cohon and University of Pittsburgh Chancellor Mark Nordenberg at its annual event at 6 p.m., Sunday, May 7, at the Hillel JUC's Joseph Stern Building, 4607 Forbes Avenue, Oakland.

Co-Chairing the event are Milton and Sheila Fine, Ira and Anita Gumberg, William and Sissy Lieberman, Daniel and Barbara Shapira, David Shapira, and David and Marlene Tepper.

"Our Hillel is very dedicated to working together with our local universities to foster a vibrant campus community, and we are proud to publicly acknowledge the value of this relationship by honoring President Jared Cohon and Chancellor Mark Nordenberg at our annual community event," said Richard Kalson, president of the Hillel JUC Board of Directors.

The Hillel JUC is honoring President Cohon and Chancellor Nordenberg for fostering a mutually beneficial relationship between the Hillel JUC and the universities they serve — a relationship whose impact is felt far beyond any institutional boundaries.

The event, entitled "Kesher: Links that Enrich our Community," will highlight the Hillel JUC's dynamic role in relationship to the campuses, students, the community and the region. Kesher will showcase the variety of ways in which the Hillel JUC reaches out to students, helping them become a vital part of the Pittsburgh campus life and the wider community.

Together with the universities, the Hillel JUC strives to forge links between students and the Western Pennsylvania region, recognizing the potential for strengthening the community as students consider establishing independent lives, careers and families in the Pittsburgh region.

The Hillel JUC touches the lives of Pittsburgh's university students in a multitude of ways and plays an essential role for Jewish students at Carnegie Mellon and Pitt as well as other area colleges and universities.

Anyone wishing to attend the event, $75 for community members and $50 for university faculty, can contact the Hillel JUC at 412-621-8875, ext 101 or links@hilleljuc.org.
