About Paper Diplomas

A Carnegie Mellon University diploma is a student's certificate of accomplishment. Housed in a gold and burgundy case and marked with a seal, the diploma is 14 x 17 inches and is printed with the name the student approved on Student Information Online (SIO), along with the student's primary degree (i.e., Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering), any additional majors, and any university honors. Minors are not listed on the diploma, although they are indicated on the official transcript. Please note that CMU diplomas do not contain a registration or certificate number and are not available in 8.5 x 11 inch sizing.

About Certified Electronic Diplomas

Graduating students and alumni who earned their degrees after 2016 can now reserve Certified Electronic Diplomas (CeDiplomas) alongside their traditional diplomas. CeDiplomas are secure electronic documents that are simple to share with friends, family, and future employers. They are official, easily verifiable proof of a student's CMU education and are provided free of charge.

To approve diploma information and reserve CeDiplomas, students should sign onto SIO and, under the Academic Info tab, click on Graduation and Diploma.
